win2k3 win2k server/domain question

Here is what I have... one site "A" with x domain, 2 dc's one win2k3 and one win2k. The 2k3 handles the dns (with forwarders), dhcp, ad, and third party mail server program... the win2k houses sql database. At a different site "B" I have another win2k machine that is an application server. It was set up before the first site (ages ago) and was set up as a standalone server with it's fqdn belonging to the x domain (our registered name). Should that standalone server now become a member server/dc of site "A" or can it just remain the way it is or will it cause problems because it has the same domain name? I hope that this makes sense. Thanks in advance.

Are you 'joining' the two sites together? If not then, there shouldn't be a problem with it having the same domain name--even if it had the same domain name, it would only be a problem if it had the same server name too, and you 'joined' the sites together.
Ad being a hierarchical space and not flat like NT4.

If they do get joined, then Site b win2k machine needs to become a member server of the first domain.

Thanks... That is great. If I do join it I would just run dcpromo, make it a member of an existing domain, add ad and dns and then add the site to my domain right? That wouldn't interfere with the apps running on it would it? It is running apache tomcat. What about the user accounts? There are only three and they all log on locally. All other access is done via the web. Maybe I will just leave it the way it is. Thanks for your help.

The local accounts would stay. And since you'd be adding it to an AD, the domain accounts would then have access to that machine. Are the other accounts on the domain? And yes, dcpromo will work just fine.

This is a server on our network but managed primarily by a third party through a vnc type app. The other accounts are not on our domain. Ya, if there will not be a problem with it belonging to the same domain but not being joined I think I will just leave it the way it is. It doesn't have dhcp, dns, or ad as that particular site houses primarily macs and the mac guys here prefer to use static ip's.
