Thinking about upgrading my Win2k DC's to Win2k3. In my past experience of 10years working on servers I have always been told, read, and expierenced first hand that a clean install works much better than an "upgrade" of any OS. Even though Microsoft would want you to believe all upgrades are smooth we know better. Is this the case in upgrading Win2k server to Win2k3? Anyone have any experience or thoughts? Let me know.

Thanks in advance
Jason

I just upgraded 12 Win2K servers (DC's and member servers) with absolutely NO issues. I was pleasently surprised at the ease of which the upgrade went.

I agree, uppgrading from win2k to win2k3 was easy and fast.
All our systems works 100%.

This is how I did the upgrade:
-Take a decent PC and install it as BDC using NT4
-Promote it to PDC
-upgrade this to Windows 2003 interim mode
-reinstall the old NT4 servers with Windows 2003 and promote them to DCs
-then transfer the FSMO rules from the first server to one of the others and demote the first server.
Then you can take the first server off line and you have a combination of an upgraded domain but still ending up with freshly istalled servers,.

Worked like a charm!

cheers
Leo
