My clients network consists of 35 computers. A Windows 2003 server. The rest are a mix of win98 and winXP workstations. The workstations all use the IP of the domain controller as their DNS IP. We have one user that works from home on a win98 laptop.

Last week she brought her pc in to me and I logged in fine and transferred her data with no problem. This week I can’t login to the network at all. I was getting this error: “The following error occurred while loading protocol number 0. Error 59: A network error has occurred.” I removed everything from networking and reinstalled, now the Microsoft Networking login box shows up and I get this error after I try to login: “No domain server was available to validate your password. You may not be able to gain access to some network resources.”

I have tried to login with different cables, directly into the hub and everything looks good in device manager. I cannot ping anything on the network, it doesn’t even time out, just says destination is unreachable. Any one have any ideas?

Hallo

I’ve had similar problem in my network, sometimes the description on this Microsoft side helped

If you haven’t already tried this, take a look. Maybe it’s something you haven’t thought about.

My experience tells me that W3k servers and workstation older than NT 4.0 is a bad combination.
