Upon closing down my Win2k desktop, it runs through the usual "Shutting down Windows" routine and then stays on blue screen and it takes a hard reset to start up again. Does anyone have any ideas?

What he saw on his screen is not the blaster warning. Shutdown.exe by default shows a default countown of 10 seconds to allow the user time to stop the process if they so choose.

bcastner, can i just upgrade to XP Pro and have done with it?? And for saddatabid's info, we have been signed up with Sophos for over two years and have all the latest info/ides whatever we need tvm.

As an additional note, now that I have run the driver verifier, the computer is slower in working as a result, you can really notice it!

I think we are going to have to concede defeat here.
Just before you upgrade, what are the specs or your system? Just to ensure its fit for XP?

The verifier could still be running in the background.

Is there any way I can turn it off to speed the computer back up again? I know the computer can take XP Pro, it came with it!
