I just put together a new system and I was ready to install my OS. My setup is:

ECS K7S5A motherboard
Athlon XP +1700
512MB DDR
40GB 7200rpm Western Digital HD
TDK 24x 10x 40x burner
Pioneer 16x DVD
SB Audigy Platinum sound card
Radeon 8500 video card
Mitsumi 3.25 drive
All cables are ATA100

My problem is that when I try to install win2k (and even winXP) after it does the hardware check, it tells me there is a syntax error in the .sif file and setup can't continue. What does this mean, whats causing it, and is there any way to fix it? Thnx for the help.

A .sif file is a Setup Information File. Are you using Remote Services? Check the floppy for a .sif file and delete it.

Sorry, forgot to mention that I'm booting/installing off the cd.

Hmm...You're booting to the CD I assume. Is there a floppy in the drive? It checks the floppy for the existence of an .sif file during Cd-boot.

Hmmm...well my primary boot device is the floppy, then cd, then hard disk. So I'm pretty sure if there was a floppy in there it wouldnt boot to the cd. wierd thing is that right now I checked and there was 98 boot disk in there. let me try again. thnx a bunch
