Recently I ran into a problem with multiple connections to a single server. Using the Computer Management tool in Win2K, then viewing shares and then Connections, one particular workstation showed up twice. However one of the entries had the users name and the other was blank under user name. Also, there was another user (on a win2K W/S) that showed up 3 or 4 times. Same computer name, same user name. We downed the server, restarted the workstations and things looked better, but there was still a double-entry for the "ghost" user. The one with the workstation name, but no user name. I checked licensing and there are enough licenses for the number of workstations on the network. The machine is only a fileserver. Nobody connects to it using any other services (such as http, ftp, telnet, printer etc.)
This is the second Win2K server I have run into this on recently. I ultimately turned of the License Manager Service, but I don't think that is a clean fix. However, I know they are legal, and this problem is keeping people from connecting to the server.
Any help would be appreciated.
