Have just installed Win2k advanced server and just replaced monitor, so I'm using a samsung syncmaster3. Have just managed to download driver for this. Though I'm unable to install this. When pc starts up it flickers like mad and has 4 screens appear at the same time so I cant really get very far. If I try logging in, in safe mode screen is fine but it doesnt allow me to update driver, which is currently set to ATI rage... most frustrating

Can any one help?

You really shouldn't have to add any drivers to add a new monitor. Usually the default drivers in win 2000 will work. You don't want to change the ATI driver as that is probably the video card and that doesn't need to be changed. Also, check the refresh rate on the monitor and then make sure under your video settings you have the proper refresh rate picked.
When it comes up fine in Safe mode it is usually a drive issue. I suggest you uninstall any drivers you added and start over using the win 2000 default driver for the monitor.

Have managed to get round this with the help of another monitor but can anyone help me in finding a driver for samsung syncmaster3? Currently having to deal with 16 colours and 640x480 res.

I don't think your issue is with the driver for the monitor. Especially with Windows 2000; it will select a default driver which usually just specifies if it is a CRT or LCD or TV. The issue seems to be with your Video Card driver. If you go to the ATI website you should be able to find an updated driver for your adapter. If not just run windows update and see if there are any driver updates directly from microsoft.

Also when windows 2000 starts up and detects your new monitor just take the defaults by clicking next for all of them, just let windows do the rest.

Hope this helps

Also, newer monitors tend to not play well with older video cards. Don't know that this is the case for you, but just a thought... Try swapping the video card and see if that's all you need.
