I've searched earlier threads concerning very slow performance but none seem to mention the case where the LAN icon in taskbar of WIN2k notebooks on Netware LAN is constantly active even with no network applications running. New DELL desktops show similar slowness at times but the seven new DELL 8100 Notebooks are almost unusable on the LAN, especially if used attempts to print to a network printer. No problems with any of the WIN98SE's on same LAN and same hubs. Sever is new with plenty of resources.
Almost seems as if constant polling in taking place on the DELL Win2K Notebooks on the common workgroup. Workgroup is necessary because of NT4.0 application server on the LAN hubs.
Dell will not help as they support only hardware problems and this is a 3rd party software problems to them.
I've been searching Microsoft and Novell suport and forums for several weeks to no avail. Numerous suggestions that I've tried haven't cleared up the problem. I'm willing to try any suggestion that you offer.
Any suggestions for freeware monitoring tools, etc.
Thanks
Ed Finigan
