Hi,

I have a single workstation running Windows 2000 and a laptop running windows 98se. The laptop does not have a CD-ROM or floppy, it only has a network card.

I want to install new software on the laptop, so I setup a workgroup for these two computers. When I share the workstation's CD-ROM over the network, I get a prompt for a password on the laptop. Can anyone tell me what this default password is?

Thanks...

I also have a Win Me/98 OS with 2 win 2k machines. They all show up in network neighborhood as move around the office. but you cant access them because of the same problem you describe,,,,did you get any answers? I was able to share flawlessy under XP-Pro but it wasnt licensed.

create an account on the w2k box with a password that coresponds to the user on the laptop give him permissions on the cd-rom and when asked for a password give the one for the newly created user.

The alternative is to log into the laptop using the same username and password as your Win 2k Machine uses. For a quick fix I find that is better and it eliminates the need for too many accounts on your Win 2k desktop.

or enable the guest account on the 2k machine.

easy enough... thanks everyone
