I'm trying to install Windows 2000 on an IBM Personal Computer 300GL at work. When I put the CD in the CD drive and start the computer, it gives me the options (install win2k, repair current win2k installation), but when I select install, it says "Windows cannot find the CD drive etc, press F3 to restart".

I also have occasional problems with keyboard/mouse errors on boot, and it does not print to a COM1 printer at all. Is it possible that the I/O bus is malfunctioning?

Try resetting BIOS to "optimium defaults" and try again. Other than a BIOS mixup, you may have outlived that PC's useful lifespan. Time to upgrade!

Are you sure its saying no CD drive? Not Cannot find the CD?

The error "usually" is cant find the CD and it is usually due to bad CD or CD rom that has a dirty lens.
