I recently upgraded a client's PC to Win2k PRO, after her HD crashed. A FoxPro 2 for DOS application (inventory) was reinstalled(i.e. the directory was copied over and the desktop shortcut was recreated).
The app loaded fine but when it was delivered to the client, I discovered the dreaded "Too many files open " error. So I edited config.nt and added the lines "FILES=225" and "BUFFERS=80", which made the app work.
Until today when they had to do a credit-note. The app allows you to enter the returned_item code and other particulars, but then an error "file is being used by somebody else" pops up and the credit note is not printed.
Does anyone have any idea why this should be so? The client is unable to contact the programmer who wrote this code originally, and it used to run fine under Windows 98. To tell the truth, I should have looked in the autoexec.bat and the config.sys before I reformatted the drive....
