The Win9X Scandisk utility is very useful for recovering failing floppy disk sectors. Does Win2K have an equivalent utility please?

Yes - just right click on the drive in explorer and go properties>tools>error checking and make sure to tick both boxes

Yes

Right click the floppy drive in my computer, Properties and choose Tools and then "Check volume for errors".
