At home we have a network with a linksys WRT54GS broadband router.
The server is running winXP. Setup was working fine without any problems.
i get an internet connection with the server with DHCP enabled in the settings of the router.
when i type ipconfig /all on the winxp computer i get the following:
DHCP enabled: yes
IP-adres: 192.168.1.100
subnetmask: 255.255.255.0
standard gateway & DHCP-server: 192.168.1.1
DNS-servers: 213.51.129.37 & 213.51.144.37
nothing wrong with this i think. everything works fine.
The second computer (laptop) is running win2k and is connected with a cable to the router.
the problem is it doesn't get an ip adres automaticly via dhcp. when i type ipconfig /all it says:
DHCP enabled: yes
IP adres: 169.254.137.80
Subnetmask: 255.255.0.0
i know this is both wrong and i read that this will occur when the computer can't connect to the router.
when i try ipconfig /release or ipconfig /renew it says there is no adapter bound to DHCP.
Before i used the laptop in a network at home with an hub and the winxp computer. This was working fine.
Both computers could connect to eachother and to the internet because we have 2 computername's provided by the ISP (@home).
Both computers obtained an ip-adres autmaticcaly without any problems.
But because we want to add 2 computers via a wireless connection i changed the hub for a router.
I tried also to disable DHCP in the router settings and fill in IP & DNS settings manually on the win2k laptop with:
IP: 192.168.1.101
subnetmask: 255.255.255.0
standard gateway: 192.168.1.1
dns-servers: same as above (i also checked this in the status screen of the router which are the same)
This doesn't work either. I get a time-out when i try to ping to the router 192.168.1.1
the workgroup is the same (don't know if this is necessary)
computernames are both different of the computer name in the router settings which get the internet connection of the ISP.
i also updated the firmware of the router to the latest version but as i expected this doesn't change anything.
and i tried also to reinstall tcp/ip on the laptop and to reinstall the netwerk adapter of the laptop: still nothing.
And because there aren't any problems with the winxp server i thing there is some problem with win2k, i don't know...
or do i have to change some settings of the router?
help please...
