Windows 2000 could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt. Windows 2000 Root>System 32>NTOSKRNL.EXE. Please reinstall a copy the above file.
I get that error when my computer boots up. Here is the situation:
I just bought a new motherboard. I installed the motherboard and everything is ok. I am going to do a fresh install of win2k onto my hard drive. I install win2k without any trouble. When I go to reboot the PC though, I pull out the win2k CD. I get the error when the PC reboots. I try rebooting with the win2k CD in. It boots up, I let it ask if I want to boot from the CD, it skips over that, then windows loads fine. No trouble at all.
I am at a loss. If the file was truely corrupt, I would not expect windows to load at all...right?
Any thoguhts? ideas?
I was going to try and copy the file from my roomies PC, which is also running Win2k, and use that.
Oh, I also have tried installing windows using 2 different CD's and got this same error. I am thinking it is some sort of hardware thing. Or a setting of some sort.
Thanks.
