Hi All,

I have one machine running Win2k SP3 which giving few probs after being updated with Microsoft Patch KB823980. After restarted the server, i faced these situations:

- can not view network properties
- can not run any file with *.exe
- missing network icon from taskbar
- can not view Services properties
- Symantec System Centre giving error msg, unable to view clients,
- from the Start button, I can not search for files

I have ran Symantec live virus scans from the site & McAfee Stinger.exe latest version, but no sign of virus appeared. Puzzled!

Hope anybody with ideas on this matter would give me a feedback. All helps is greatly appreciated!!

FYI

I have seen people with the same problem. They resolved it by installing SP4

I have tried that but to no avail. After extracting the files, and while inspecting the machine, Win2k SP4 'hang'. Though, when I checked the task manager it stated the program as 'running'. At 1 time, I let the SP4 'inspecting' my machine for one whole nite but it still didn't work.

Any idea?

I have another company that faced the same problem as mine. All symptoms was the same as stated in my first post above, but somehow they managed to make machine back to normal. Over the weekend for about 3 days, the machine was shutdown. The next day, when power-on all was back to normal. Everything is working fine now.

These confused me the most. Is there such a thing as 'long-hour discharge of temporary memory in the machine'?

Anyone with any ideas? Thanks alot!
