Have win98 and win2k on seperate partitions.
Cdrom works fine in win98 but only plays audio cd's in win2k. Tried laoding my printer software and the cdrom spun and then spun down again,,sounded like a revving engine. The cdrom is recognized in my computer and explorer.
Thanks.

Are you using Windows Media Player 7?

If so, uninstall the Adaptec CD-Writer support component (can't remember exactly what it's called, cos I removed it!)

Normally this problem manifests as not even showing the CD drive in My Computer/Explorer under Win2k, but this might be worth trying?

Otherwise, I would suggest borrowing a friend's CDROM drive and hooking it up temporarily to see if that works. Oh, and a different CDROM disk as well, just to be sure!
