Hello,

We have PC's running win2000prof and WinXP, all works fine on PC's except one application, which uses Oracle & Visual Fox pro ODBC. Problem is with the Win2000 PC's and the gateway used. We have an old gateway 10.1.1.252 and a new gateway 10.1.1.243. The WinXP PC's have addresses 10.1.5.* 255.255.0.0, with a Gateway of 10.1.1.243. The Win2000 have the same, but the application takes about 2+ mins to get a login prompt. If we change the gateway to our old one 10.1.1.252, it takes approx 15 seconds to get a login prompt. Only thing is we need to get rid of our old gateway. By using the old gateway, we are adding an additional routing step, which does not make sense. Using tracert produces the same results when using new gateway. Have also checked routes on the routers. Anyone got any idea’s?

You cannot have a Gateway on a different network segment.
If your network address is 10.1.5.*, with a subnet 255.255.0.0, you cannot have a Gateway on 10.1.1.x

I should amend the above. You have to make certain that all devices on the network can accept your Class B assignment.

Hello,

Yes, class B addresses are being used on all the devices concerned. Will check the browser issue out.

Thanks.
