Hi everyone.

Periodically, Windows 2000 boots without initializing my D-Link 220 network adapter. Usually, simply scanning for new hardware will automatically discover and initialize the adapter but sometimes I have to uninstall it from the device manager and reinstall it. When it is scanned for and found it is not reinstalled, no drivers are installed, it simply appears in the system tray as it was supposed to upon boot-up.

I haven't been able to confidently correlate the dropping of the network adapter with virus definition upgrades or MS critical updates or any other installations but it seems like there may be one.

The adapter is never dropped while logged onto the machine, only after rebooting.

I use a cable modem with RoadRunner.

Thanks a lot,

I would insure that teh D0Link driver is Win2K compliant. Check their web site. Good Luck.

I´ve had the same problem with D-Link cards at work. It turned out to be a incompatible with an Asus motherboard. When I removed it from the computer with the Asus-board, moving it to another board, it worked perfectly.

The same problem appears with the D-Link card on three different computers with Asus involved. Even went back to the retailer with both the motherboard and the NIC and got them replaced, but the problem was still there...
Now, the D-Link is replaced by a 3Com and everything runs smooth.
