Hi all, why is it that I am not able to browse for domain users and add them to the remote desktop allowed user lists in the workstations. This has only suddenly started to happen on the last two pc's we bought. I have a small busines server 2003 with xp pro sp2 workstations. I have logged on locally with the intended users. However only the administrator can log remotely in to the workstations.
In the add a remote user list i am only offered local users only, and have no option to change this. Weird i know any thoughts to offer a comparitive rookie.

Hello,

I am having similar problems with a similar setup...I have traced it to the group policy on the server. In my research there is a group policy setting that controls the firewall in XP pro sp2 that dis-allows local users from changing the firewall setting and turns it on by default. I don't understand how it all works but thought I'd share this info. If I figure it out or get new info about this I'll post it.

Set a GPO to disable the firewall (assuming you have a hardware based firewall).

Then log into the workstation as a domain admin and try again.

Thanks 58 sniper sounds like you've solved it before. However you wouldn't know the Ms KB article number or How to list number as i've never set a GPO to turn off the firewall.
Buy the way we have a linksys hardware firewall and seem to have the sp2 firewall enabled on all the client pcs in the domain.

Computer Configuration>Administrative Templates>Network>Network Connections>Domain Profile>Windows Firewall: Protect All Network Connections

Set it to DISABLED

Thanks again, spent a few hours trying this fix. However the two machines seem to be stuck as before browsing only on the local pc. GPO results seems to show errors in attemting to apply gpo settings (firewall off etc) on these newly built machines. I turned the sp2 firewalls off manually but still
no change. I'll probably have to format and start again but i see this every now and again and really could do with faster remedy. Is there anything else i could try?
