Have Asus A7N8X Deluxe w/ 2x 512mg DDR400 w/ Asus V9280 T/D
Video Card 128 Mg DDR. XP pro. When typing online system
crashes - have all driver updates I know of.

Could be bad hardware. Run tests on the memory and HD. Check temps. (replace power supply)

Also, use only 'Default' memory settings in BIOS.

Thanks for that franklin97355, have run memtests and even
replaced memory. Replaced HD and Power supply! Any other
thoughts?

Windows gives a driver error and the Blue screen says
ptserial.sys or something like that.

What is the exact text in the error message(incl. 'Details') and the BSOD?

Tck307....I have scanned using AVG, and reloaded new System
on new hard drives - Still crashes. Only while online and
typing. Wordperfect, E-Mail, BB posting - matters not.

Wierd!

Help appreciated.

ski, I'll jot it down exactly nxt time. But it reads as
PTSERIAL.SYS (I think) and Xp reports it as a Driver conflict.

THX

Hi,

Am I correct in that the system only crahes if you are connected to the internet via your dialup modem?

Do you have an external or internal modem?

Have you looked on the modem manufacturer's web site for later drivers?

Two suggestions:

1) Physically remove the modem from the system and make sure it is removed in XP, then reboot then reinstall it and reload drivers.

2) If 1) above does not succeed then remove the modem again and ensure it is removed from XP, reboot then (if possible) borrow an external modem (there easier to install) and install it and see what happens.

What is the brand and model of the modem? Has it ever worked? If it has was there an event after which it did not work?

Do you have up to date virus protection?

Cheers.

koala15..... i have tried a new modem, but not reinstalling the drivers, or updating them. I have an
internal modem, a Harmony Multimedia, do not know what
chipset. I'll try your suggestions. Any new ones, let me know.

Thx

Zeusasus,

PC's are my life but on (some) occasions they are a pain.

An internal modem is worth every cent you paid for it -> zero.

A suggestion (if possible) get an external modem, USB or serial - it really makes no difference since "dial-up" internet connection is slower than both.

The problem with internal modems is that you have very little control or diagnostic facilities.

Do you have any opportunity to access the internet via broadband (ADSL or similar)?

Cheers.

I like the platypus .... they are REALLY different.

Koala15...Ski...

koala, I have a DSL at work, can and will try on a Ethernet
connection. THX.

The "error" is:

Driver_IRQL_Not_Less_Or_Equal

Stop:0x000000D1

PTserial.sys - address F726585B

Base at F7244000

DateStamp 3ea9fd02

Beginning dump of physical memory

Does this help?
