From XP can re-direct print to 5 network printers
LPT2 thru LPT6. NET USE LPTn \\computer\printer is fine.
All shared printers attached to WIN98-SE computers.

Added a new computer with WIN-XP-Home and attached a
Brother Laser via USB cable. Shared the printer OK.
Had to CAPTURE LPT1: on this computer to print from
Clipper apps to the local USB printer. This was OK.

Problem remaining is that the Original XP computer can
not print to LPT7 redirected to the new XP computer
- we get error message 2014

How can we work around this problem please?

Cheers,
Jim

Thank you BOZZ - a lot of useful stuff

But.... no workaround for this particular problem
XP to XP(with USB captured to LPT1)

Will continue to investigate

I have the same problem. I could print XP to a shared 98 printer, but when I upgraded the 98 to XP also, it fails to print in dos.

I think it is because the XP with no printer attached has locked the port as the shared HP Dot port.

If I try a net use lpt1 \\printerpc\printer

it says the port is in use, can't change it etc.

Did You take care about, that You must have administrator-rights on a XP-machine to capture LPT1-port?

download PrintFile from and all your problems are solved. include in your programs before print something like: <run c:\somedir\printfile "report.prn">

Hi
see no2imp70.exe is an aplication to re-direct the printer port to Windows printers.
