Hello, I have an Exchange 2000 server. Up until this year most of my users have still been using Windows 98, this year we upgraded most of our computers to Windows XP, but now we are experiencing major delays in our e-mail retrieval. I looked into the problem, and I currently have two computers on my desk, a 98 machine and an XP machine. Both are logged on to the exchange server under the same mail box, when I send mail to that mail box my 98 machine will retrieve it almost instantly, but my XP machine will take sometimes hours, or somtimes until i manually click send and recieve, and then I usually have to refresh the inbox to get the mail. Both computers are using the same version on Outlook and both computers are settup to do an automatic send and recieve every minute.

Does anyone have any advice on why this is happening, or maybe how I can solve this issue?

Thank You

Ok !

Have you set the first DNS address in you network connection properties to the IP Address of the PDC.

I had the same problem with Outlook XP. I went the rounds with Microsoft on it as well, and they ended up not helping me. They were blaming it on the exchange server. I had to switch back some users to Outlook 2000, so I could have some peace and quiet. I did however update to SP3 on my own PC for Outlook XP and it helped greatly.

It looks that a DNS error, maybe somthing in you DNS table. Check to make sure all systems have correct DNS address of the network PDC.

Thank you for all of your sugestions, I updated to Office XP Service Pack 3, and I checked my DNS settings and set my computer up to use our Primary and Alternative DNS servers, however I am still having the same issues. I can even send myself a message, and watch it sit in the Outbox until I Hit Send and Recieve, and then refresh the inbox. Any other insight is still very much appreciated.

I had a similar problem with Outlook 2000 on windows XP connecting to exchange 5.5.

My Solution: Windows firewall had been enabled on the Network Connection this was preventing broadcasts from exchange notifying of new e-mails. I just disabled windows firewall on this network connection.

Just to check:

In Outlook XP - Tools - Options - Mail Setup - Send/Receive - Send immediately checkbox on?
And click the Send/Receive button:
When Outlook is online: Check Include this group... and Schedule .... and set to 1 minute
