Hi, while grappling with an annoying virus, the rundll32.exe file in the C:\Windows\System32 folder was accidentally deleted. XP Home had been set up requiring a password to log in. But now every time I try to log in, it logs out immediately. I suspect its the missing rundll32.exe file.

I got a copy of the file from another machine that's running XP Pro. Would that matter?

How can I copy the rundll32.exe file back into the folder because I cannot log into XP. I tried command prompt in safe mode but it still asks for login details and logs out immediately after the details are entered.

Thanks in advance.

Is this a home or work machine? Are you one of the administrators on the pc?

Hi, thanks for the response. Its a home machine and I'm the admin user.

*bump*

anybody got an ideas?

If you have the Windows CD that came with the PC you should be able to run it through the repair install and get the file replaced that way.
