Hi All,

Trying to do a data recovery on a customers hard drive that was unbootable, BSOD win XP. The message was ntfs.sys missing or corrupted.

Well I tried all my tricks:
Safemode NO GO, BSOD
Recovery Console NO GO, BSOD
Barte PE NO GO, couldn't see the C: drive

So I did some surfing and found an atricle about Linux Knoppix Live
I burned the CD and it worked. I could see the C: Drive and I copied the files to an external Hard Drive.

Bottom line Knoppix is a great tool to have in your tool box.

I agree. Also Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron will boot and run from the CD and open Fat and NTSF volumes and connect to Windows networks. I recently used it to recover data from a toasted Win2k box over the network. It also comes with VNC host & client and RDP client. Very useful.

Great, would that be 8.04.1 Hardy Heron desktop-powerpc iso

Thanks

Hi stSpringer2003

I wasn't aware Hardy was supported on powerpc as yet, but I could be wrong.

According to the ubuntu.com download page, it isn't:

I am using the 32 bit x86 version, and yes that and the 64 bit versions do come as a 700 msb iso download. I actually ordered the cd since I don't have that kind of bandwidth here.
