Does anyone know where I can download a copy of the recovery cd's for this model? There's a backlog on the orders for this particular model and I need this laptop back and running ASAP!!! I want to load a copy of Windows XP Pro but from all the facts I'm gathering, the drivers for this model ONLY works with Vista?!?!? WTF!!! Can someone help me PLEASE!!

Model # 494059-002

Unless someone has a spare copy around the place you may be stuck with the Official Sites and the long wait you describe?

An alternative, if somewhat expensive, is to purchase your own retail version of a operating system, and then start the painful task of locating the notebook's special drivers.

Thanks for the reply. I'm a have to just wait it out for the recovery disks from HP.

are you sure that the above name is correct, all I can find that is similar is the Compaq Presario CQ50-115NR, and for that model it should be no problem getting XP drivers...

If you can get all the drivers you need, and need the system up in a hurry, NewEgg and other online vendors also offer OEM Windows disks. You could use one of those, and possibly still keep the original Product ID off the bottom of your laptop, and thus end up with an extra copy of Windows to boot for something else.

Another option would be eBay:

Also, if they are still out there, there are sites that sell just the Windows CDs, so it costs less than buying a CD with the Product ID.

Here is an informational site on that topic:

Here's one media only:

I didn't check into the seller, myself.

Oops, the links I gave were for XP. Forgot you said Vista. Either way, you can find the same thing, at least in the OEM versions of the product.
