There is a closed thread that indicates a few people have loaded SPM on a Windows 7 machine. I am trying to do the same and getting OLE/registry errors. I am also trying to do this via the support.avaya site going thru version by version since I am using a netbook w/ no CD drive. Any suggestions as to what is going wrong/what I should be doing differently? Thanks!

I haven't used Windows 7 yet, but I've read something about being able to emulate Windows XP. If Windows 7 can emulate XP, can you somehow use that to get WinSPM to load?

With each incarnation of Windows that comes along, I can't help but wonder how long it will be before WinSPM becomes 100% unusable. With the Merlin platform gone, it stands to reason that Avaya and the company that created WinSPM have no interest in doing any further work on the program.

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.

I also tried it with a CD (actually a flash drive) with no success - will investigate the emulation... or just use my cool netbook for IP office and my uncool laptop for WIN SPM -

You can supposedly click on the exe and set to run in compatability mode.

There ia also a XP mode that is essentially a virtual drive with a authorized version of xp installed on it.

Don't know if either will work for spm of any of the other Merlin or Partner apps since I haven't installed win 7 yet.

I have winspm 7, 8 and 9 installed and working fine on my Vista and 7 32 bit OS.

So are you simply going to tease or will you post how you installed?

It's people like you who generalize.

I never had a problem with WinSPM on Vista. I just installed it as usual and that was it...no tweaks, no nothing.

Now I haven't fiddled with Windows 7 yet, but I will soon. For those that have, I understand that some have come across problems with certain software that wasn't a problem in Vista. The solution for those cases--as ken07734 suggests--is to run XP on a "virtual machine" within Windows 7. There's a nice article about that here.

@Ken: Hello! Ever use 710.77345?

I have not attempted this yet because my netbook runs "7 starter" and it doesn't have the xp emulation. I have ordered 7 and will post how things turn out...

Be careful Tim.....You're dating yourself with "710.77345" [lol]

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.

Merlinman - I can't think of anyone I would trust more with my little guy but I am rather fond of him and he does a great job w/ IP Manager - which ironically enough my laptop that I use for WIN SPM won't connect with. It's almost like the two systems don't like each other....

I tried installing WinSPM R9 on my new laptop, which is running Windows 7 Home Edition 64 bit OS. I get the following message: Exception EOleSysError in Module WinSPM.exe @ 000DD441. I tried downloading the Virtual XP, but they don't make it compatible with my Home version of Windows. I know I am really pushing the envelope, but does anyone have any other ideas? I have searched all the links, and been through the Avaya website, but I can't find any downloads for WinSPM. I finally found a CD back in the store room, still sealed!

Sorry I can't be any help - never upgraded from 7 starter to full 7 - I am carrying an old laptop for WIN SMP and a new one for IP Office - its a 'one of these days' project..

So I converted a lab laptop from xp to win7. I moved some stuff over and winspm was included with the move. I copied my wimspm directory verbatim and tried to run but got some errors soooo... I installed using winspm version 4. Once complete I tried to run but got a new crop of errors so...... I ran the winspm from the copied directory(winspm 9) and viola it ran. Actually I had set the compatability mode for winspm.exe at XP SP3.

Good luck.

So what I think I just read is you did have to use the xp compatibility mode on 7? I am going to get around to needing this set up one of these days...
