I need help in finding a way to get into our NT file server. Unfortunately, the password that we have logged doesn't work. Can someone help? Thanks, Vini

Is it in a domain or a workgroup?

If domain do you have any other account that is (or might be) a domain admin?

If not have you tried the default types? Administrator with blank, with "password", with "administrator", admin admin.... You'd be surprised how often that works...

Don't you still need the administrator password with ERD?

"In space, nobody can hear you click..."

Install Win NT on another HD or partition
Attach you previous NT and delete SAM file. This file contains all security and share information.

Take a look at this page

I have used that tool several time to change lost nt/win2k passwords. It works very well and its quite easy to use.

It lets you boot into a small linux dist which means you don't have to put the hard drive in another computer etc.

Read the instructions carefully as its also an offline registry editor which means you could toast your nt totally if used wrong.

Take a look at FAQ 96-2866 in the Windows 2000 forum. I have tried to gather together inforamtion on recovering lost passwords from various posts in the server forums.
