How can I stop the Logon prompt from coming up every time a turn on my standalone machine? It is so annoying. I know it is used for profiles but we are all happy to use the same profile.

ehh....I cant remember which one it is, but change the logon to I thnink...Quick Logon...this is done in the network properties, if networking is not setup, go to the control pannel and double click on netowrking....this should set it up...
if your having and probs pleaes reply!! Jay~

"I have to think of a funny footer to

Thanks KEYTECH, will try that when I get home.

Change your password so that it is blank, and it will pass the login screen automatically.

Have tried no password, doesn,t work, have deleted all profiles but default remains.
Cannt find any mention of quick logon.

What operating system is it that you are using...
NT Workstation has no way of disabling the prompt.

For Windows 95 / 98 / 98SE you could download the Powertoys

There is an option under TweakUI which allows you to logon automatically.
I KNOW this works, as I use it on my home machine as well. The logon prompt appears, but TweakUI will then enter the password for you.

leptonite,

And finally, if all else fails:

Try #3 first, it may do the trick alone, if not go through the following steps.

1. Go to Start>Find>Files & Folders... type in *.pwl and delete all .pwl files in c:\windows

2. Go to start>Run, type sysedit. Maximize the system.ini
Delete all lines under
[Password Lists]

3. Go to ControlPanel>Network
Choose Windows Logon as Primary Login

Reboot

You should now get the login box one last time. Type in your name. Just click OK for no password.

Not yet, try:
Backup the registry and/or export the following keys:
go to Start>Run, type regedit. Navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\current version\network\real mode netRight-click on Real Mode Net, choose new>Binary value, name it AutoLogon
and give it a value of 01 00 00 00.

Before you get into the Registry go to Control Panel then Network and under Primary Network logon make sure that it says Windows Logon and not Client for Microsoft Networks. I assume that this is a Win 9X machine considering where you posted. This should take care of your problem.

one way I can think of it is to take out all the users from
the users settings in the control panel

reghakr is dead-on

However, before editing the registry, make this step 3 of reghakr's procedure:

- right-click My Computer on your desktop and select properties
- click on the Device Manager Tab and expand the "Network Adapters" section
- assuming this is a laptop and/or you are NOT connecting to a LAN, make sure that all ethernet adapters are disabled
- you can disable them by double-clicking the adapter and checking the option to "Disable in this hardware profile"
- normally if you just use a dial-up connection, you only need to have the Dial-up adapter enabled.

In most cases, disabling the ethernet adapter will automatically do step 3 of reghakr's procedure...

Start>Settings>CP>Network. What's listed for "Primary Network Logon"?

Start>Settings>CP>Network. In the window titled "The following network components are installed", is "Client for Microsoft Networks" listed". Assuming it is listed, highlight "Client for Microsoft Networks" and click on Properties. What's selected under Properties?

Click on Start>Run, key in Regedit and press enter. Click on Edit>Find, key in Autologon and click on Find Now. Does it find anything?

** bottom line **

the original question was how to "stop the logon prompt from coming up"

You just have to make sure that the following is true:
1) Dial-Up adapter is the only adapter enabled in Device Manager
2) Primary Network Logon is "Windows Logon"
3) all *.pwl files have been deleted
4) in system.ini, delete all lines under [password lists]

** I hate to be repetitive, but some people refuse to read previous posts **

Only one other thing:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Network\Logon
If you see an entry named MustBeValidated and
it has a value of 01 00 00 00

Right-click, choose modify and type in 00 00 00 00.
