Need some ideas. Clipper app was moved to fresh win 98 and xp installs from win 95. a routine to search and retrieve data from the win nt 4 server on the old win 95 pcs took around 5 seconds. on the SAME pc with win 98 the routine now takes almost 30 seconds! (and about 15 seconds on a hot rod xp machine). what happened and what can i do? thanks.

thx. will pass the info on to our clipper programmer.

may also want to check the revision of the client (Novell/Windows) you are using.

Can you try the processing on Win95 back again? If so I guess speed is back in its original league. Cause: 16 bit applications work better with the 16 bit network drivers of Win95. I once saw the same behaveour on a WinNT/Win95 network, where app speed crawled after 'upgrading' the Win95 night-job-processor PC to Win98. Originally it took about 65 minutes to complete, after the upgrade it went up to over 2 hours, on a mapped networkdrive, and the most it did on the network was copying files from the server to local, process them, and copy it all back!

If you pass info's back to the programmers, have them have a look at there's a free, open source Clipper compatible, 32 bit compiler, that handles about 101% of my original Clipper code, which is over 3 million lines of code... Just the external libs are sometimes a bit cumbersome, but large parts of CA-Tools3 and NanFor and a few others are 'converted' and freely available.
