I have a 98 machine and a 2000 machine. I cannot get the 98 machine access to the 2000 machine over the network. Everything is shared and the 2000 can access the 98. It wants a password to access the 2000 machine and I have never entered one.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Some things to look for are can you ping the W2K machine. Verify the firewall is not blocking access to the W2K mcahine. This is located in the network properties/local area connection properties on the advanced tab. I have noticed sometimes these come defaulted to on.

Just some thoughts.

Old chestnut - you need an account set up on the 2k machine with same username/password as you use to log onto 98 machine.

What wolluf said. Just go into control panel, administrative tools, computer management, local users and groups and you'll see a users folder. Open that up and in the right window pane right-click and you'll get a menu with the options new user. Uncheck User must change password at logon and I suggest placing a check on user cannot change password and password never expires. Then either enable Client for microsoft networks logon or change the user name to whatever the account you just made is named.
