win 98 slow internet connection 1

hi all,
I have two lap tops, two xp, and 98, the xps download speed is 350 kb/s great speed , but the 98 is about 30 to 60 kb/s , both are connected through Linksys wirless router through a cable modem. I tried the 98 by itself with the xps turned off, same deal.
I can give more details but do not know where to start..

1. Update the adapter drivers on the Win98 machine;
2. Do a "Tweak Test". It may be that the Win98 machine has an MTU set for dial-up connections. Do the test from this site, and use the "DrTCP" utility to make any recommended MTU and/or RWIN value changes:

Thanks much bcastner, you hit it right on. It worked immediatly, after i ran drtcp, and changed rwin to 10220, instead of 1580. Thanks, my wife can use me for other things now!
