Recently, my PC started rebooting every time that I shut it down. It goes through the entire shutdown process, does a soft reboot, and comes back up. I'm also finding other people that I know who are having the same problem. All of us are on Win 98 Second edition but have different machines and configurations. Please send any information you may have to rnrtudor@charter.net. Thanks!

Go to the Microsoft.com web page and click on support. Click on the knowledge base for FAQ's under WIN98 and you will eventually find the answer. I printed out the the FAQ and will try to find it and let you know the exact FAQ designation number. It stopped my PC from rebooting when I shutdown.

It could actually be your power supply. I had an identical issue last week and a new power supply fixed the problem. THIS IS NOT TO SAY THAT A POWER SUPPLY IS "THE" FIX EVERY TIME THIS OCCURS, but is not to be ruled out.

I to have had this problem,
I found that it was caused buy some tweek programs that edit the registry such as Cleansweep, tweek all etc.
Reinstalling windows without these programs solved my problem but i'm sure that there is and easier way.
Edwardo is probably right, the Microsoft FAQ is your best bet at finding a simple answer.

My PC has started doing exactly the same thing, but Windows is a fickle beast...

Generally, I wouldn't worry too much about it as it usually sorts itself out after a couple of weeks or so.

I used to have a similar problem with my auto-shutoff mechanism, where it just sat at the 'It is now safe to turn off your computer' screen, and refused to shut itself off. Weirdly enough, about 6 weeks later, it started shutting itself off correctly...

If in doubt, blame Bill.
