I've got a peer-to-peer network. I just bought an HP 9680C and I own an HP 8562. I can connect one or the other to the network but not both. They won't communicate with each other. Although they can see the computer but can not read any of each others files. There are 6 other computers on this network. Each of the two mentioned HP computers can see the other computers just fine.
They have the same IP Address:
IP Address 192.168.1.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
I don't know what to change them to. The 9680C has two other IP addresses used for the supplied DSL card. I've tried letting the address be obtained automatically -- no luck.
Does anyone know the answer to this puzzle.

In a nutshell they cant have the same IP address. How many other machines in the network and what are their addresses? Normally just increase or decrease the last digit.
Clive
clive@digitalsky.co.za

I assemble and sell these things.

Use ping command to ping your network to check if IP address 192.168.1.2 is free, but make sure that all computers are switched on and connected to the peer network .If no reply occurs the IP address is free .Go to D0S prompt and type in ping 192.168.1.2 and press enter . if it is not free try 192.168.1.3 and keep going until you find an ip address to being used . To change the IP address - settings - control panel - network
on TCP/IP protocol icon double click on this and you will go into the setting options .

Make sure the IP addresses are unique on the network. Use ipconfig.exe, in windows directory, to verify ip address. Install file and print sharing on all machines. This should help.
