Hi,

Having recently had a problem with getting Nero Burn to work, I did a stupid thing and (blindly) installed the Dos drivers onto my system.
I am now getting the following message appear every time I boot up...

The following file is missing or corrupted:
C:\HXCD-ROM\CDROM.SYS
There is an error in your CONFIG.SYS file on line 13.

At the bottom of the screen it says:
Device driver not found 'MSCD000'
No valid CDROM devices selected.

I would be very grateful if someone could help me put this right....Many thanks !!

No Probs, Two things you can do to correct this problem. If you do not need the Dos drivers any more then start Windows and then Click on STart then run. Type Sysedit and click on OK. Click onto the window called config.sys then add the word REM before line 13. Put a space between the REM and whats there at the moment. Windows will then ignore that line when starting up. You may then receive similar messages relating to other lines in either config.sys and autoexec.bat if so follow the instructions above. Alternativly if you need the dos drivers then let me know the make and model number of your CDRW and I will source them for you. Greg Palmer

Any feed back is appreciated.

And remember if it doesn't work just flush it down the toilet. [Flush]

Hi Greg,

Thanks very much for your support.
I looked in the 'config.sys' but i'm not sure which is line 13....i've copied it below, could you possibly show me which one it is.
Sorry to be such a pain.

DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS /TESTMEM:OFF
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE NOEMS D=48
FILES=50
BUFFERS=50
DOS=HIGH,UMB

device=c:\windows\COMMAND\display.sys con=(ega,,1)
Country=044,850,c:\windows\COMMAND\country.sys

REM --- By HiSpeed CD-ROM Drive installation program. 9/13/102 ---
LASTDRIVE=Z
DEVICE = C:\HXCD-ROM\CDROM.SYS /D:MSCD000

The final line:

DEVICE = C:\HXCD-ROM\CDROM.SYS /D:MSCD000

Is the one you are after. Make it:

REM DEVICE = C:\HXCD-ROM\CDROM.SYS /D:MSCD000

The rest of the file looks OK All things are possible except skiing through a revolving door.

Hi,

I did think as much, but I never have the balls to do it till someone who knew what they were talking about told me.

THANK YOU !!!

OK...the error part has gone...that's good.

I'm still getting the bit at the bottom of the screen which says...

Device driver not found 'MSCD000'
No valid CDROM devices selected.

My new CDRW seems to be installed ok, even though NERO won't let me use it... it keeps telling me

'This Nero version can only be used with the recorder it was bundled with'

It IS the version that came with the CD ????

PROBLEM SOLVED PROBLEM SOLVED PROBLEM SOLVED PROBLEM SOLVED PROBLEM SOLVED PROBLEM SOLVED PROBLEM SOLVED PROBLEM SOLVED

Downloaded new version of Nero which told me that some of the system files needed to be updated (which it did)
Re-started and hey-presto no more silly messages.

I'm still not able to use my (full) version of Nero for some reason ?? but for the time being i'm using the demo version.

Thanks again for all the help though !!!!

The free version of Nero that comes with various burners is designed to only work with that particular burner. If you are using the burner that the Nero CD came with and get this message you should contact your supplier, it sounds like they have stuffed up somewhere along the line and given you the wrong CD All things are possible except skiing through a revolving door.
