go to dos quickle and type: "sys a:" now you can go back to windows
you also have to copy mscdex.exe and your device-driver for the cd-rom if you haven't got one you can use a universal one yalled oakcdrom.sys to a:\ you should find the files on the win-cd
no edit autoexec.bat and put the following line in:
LH a:\MSCDEX.EXE /D:mscd001 /L:driveletter
and write this in config.sys
device=oakcdrom.sys /D:mscd001
Depending on your experience of adding real mode drivers, and if your current Windows install will booot, you may find it easier this way: (Win 98 only I think, but it may work on 95)
Go to CONTROl PANEL, click 'Add/Remove programs', then click the STARTUP DISK tab. Insert a floppy in drive A: and click CREATE DISK. If Windows is able to, it should add any real mode support you will need. If it doesn't you will need to path in your CD drivers manually as in the previous post.
Alternatively, if your Win 95/98 setup is working correctly and you just want to run a legacy DOS app. without using boot disks, try this:
1. Right click on desktop and select NEW >SHORTCUT.
2. In the command line dialog, type C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND.COM and click NEXT. Accept the default name, or a new name for your shortcut and select FINISH.
3. Now Right click on the new MSDOS icon and select properties, click on the PROGRAM tab, and then on the ADVANCED button.
4. Now select the MSDOS mode check box button, and SPECIFY A NEW MS DOS CONFIGURATION
5. You will then need to insert the relevant lines to the CONFIG.SYS & AUTOEXEC.BAT <again see previous posting for further instructions>.
