AAAAGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!

My computer was working perfectly - with the exception that I couldn't use the volume control on my multimedia USB keyboard. I downloaded a new driver for it and I uninstalled my previous driver as per the instructions. I rebooted, and ever since I have not been able to get into Windows (2000). Nothing seems to work - can't even do Safe Mode. It goes as far as the opening image, shows the progress bar and it goes all the way to the end and then *poof*... reboots.

I've tried rebooting with the Win 2K CD in the drive and I can do a repair, but when I reboot, it does the same thing and reboots.

I'm assuming that the problem is because there is no keyboard driver loaded, but in this day and age with OSes surely it shouldn't be such a fatal problem?!? I think I can solve the problem if I can just get a keyboard driver reinstalled, but the best I can get is a DOS prompt and I don't think that is good enough to solve the problem. Or am I wrong?

Any help or suggestions are most welcome!!!

Thanks!

Do you have an older keyboard? Like the PS/2 style. Unplug the USB one and try with an old one.

I have found that when dealing with USB devices, it is best to install the driver 1st, before even plugging in the device.

Unplug the USB keyboard and reboot. You said you tried safe mode, but what about Last Known Good Configuration?

Thanks Hewissa for your help. I was able to repair the installation using the Win 2K CD and things are more or less back to normal. I've had to do a little repairing on my own (mostly putting things back to the way they were!) but I can at least get things started.

Thanks!
