hi there, got a multi probs here...

firstly, i just installed windows 2000 from a windows 98 OS... i did use a cd installer but the thing is... everythin that i have still intact in my harddisk... i tot once u change OS, ure files in ure drive totally been wipe out? i change my OS cos i have lots of problem.. sum of my softwares i usually use ends up cant be use...i think my pc beein invaded by trojans..well i'm not sure for that... i think. but i have sum anti spywares and norton antivirus and even zonealarm to back me up but still.... sometimes keeps hangin... and the only thing for me is to clear my dammed pc and start fresh again.... but then again after i install windows 2k.... the OS starts workin weird..my norton kinda recognize my pc i guess... and few stuffs kinda like when i type msconfig or even press the windows update button..kinda prompts out "error, cannot find the .exe bla bla bla"

Just tell me any ways to get a simple clear cut wipe out of my files in the pc and i want to start out fresh!!!

You need to do a clean install.

If you want to do a clean install of 2000 see thread616-865972 it should help you.

As mentioned - you need clean install - boot from 2k install CD, use its partitioning tools to remove existing partition(s) and create new one - then continue as normal.

Ok for now... i reformatted my pc.. completely windows 2000 OS....but....during the process....unimaginable...i cant delete my old partitions.... i dunno why...in the win 2k setup itself...when i wanted to delete the partition..my keyboards go numb on me i cant press 'd' even to delete the partition... but everythins.. after the setupok..until..... i cant reinstall my norton antivirus...it said sumthin that has an error...and i had to uninstall or even install a new antivirus software...but i got this mcafee firewall setup.. but i dont think it no use...i gues..cos the software found out trojans leekin in my server... but there's no way how to remedy it..i got spams out to peeple suddenly... well whuts da best recommendation u guys can opt fer me on the windows 2k and even the antivirus software?? any recommends? thanks...

If you got that many issues, whipe it out completely, with a 98 bootdisk if necessary, see
PS: please write in plain and proper English, lot's of people here are not native English and it does not 'look' nice either.

You might want to go a step furtherthan just deleting the partitions (I'm wondering if fdisk will let you if 2k's tools won't) - eg, will completely wipe the disk, letting you start from scratch (if still a problem after this, you may have a hardware problem)

btw - does the bios have an anti-virus setting - and if so is it turned off (needs to be)?

wolluf, I had an similar issue once, and if you boot in 98, fdisk will do it as it has no knowledge of the NTFS partition, it just lists it as non-dos.
In 2000, some security issue may prevent you from changing partitions, the lower level boot disk will not suffer from that.

marcs41 - fdisk should do the job, BUT there have been posts where it hasn't - which is why I suggested killdisk as a backup.

oh sure, that is a good tool, no question there.
I just posted because you were 'wondering' ;-)

Well thanks guys, for the infos. sure help me alot. now i'm just wondering. i have 2 usb ports in my pc but i need 2 more usb ports for my aplliances. now, i kinda bought a multi usb port (4 usb ports can be inserted at 1 time) but everytime i start my pc my keyboard went unknown. i have to use 4 ports which is 1 for my keyboard, 1 for my mouse, 1 for my printer, and lastly for my Net MD. And when i reinsert back to the pc for the multiport then it started to figure out that a new hardware just installed. is it recommended to use usb multiports? i'm kinda dumb in pcs abit, but everytime one thing is ok, then another thing pops out giving a headache... i just really wanted my Net MD to work and all i have to do is to reinstall everythin n start all over again..yeesh.. but thanks alot guys.. i really admit u guys help alot. anyways..
