recently installed windows 2k pro on a new drive ( fireball 20 gig ) using the normal ide connection ( i didn't know about the f6 stuff then :( ) . when i move the drive to umda 66 connection it brings up a error like failed to read , i can't remember exactly . does anybody have any ideas how i can get this working ? i've got the hpt 366 drivers installed.

This is a catch-22 situation, you can't start Windows from your disk because it needs the drivers to access it under UDMA 66, you can't install the drivers because Windows won't run from the disk. You must provide them at install time, on floppy. Put all the driver files for the HPT on the floppy. During Windows install it will ask about mass storage devices, hit S. Under OTHER, provided by manufacturer, hit enter. Insert floppy and hit enter. It will load and use the driver to allow Windows to continue loading. When in Windows, if the drivers are not automatically installed (they should be) you can then install them.
