Hello, recently we moved one win2k pc to another desk, nothing important no config changes made.
So, i start the machine up and i find that i cannot log onto the domain. I log as admin on the pc and I can't even ping the DC or any other computer.
Ok maybe there is some connnectity problem, changed cable, moved the pc to anothe desk where one perfectly working computer was and no luck.
This win2k is simply isolated from the rest of hte world, i tried to rejoin the domain, nothing.
What could be wrong (it all worked perfectly before). I tried to delete the computer account in the dc and recreating it, same for the user, nothing, it can't join the domain, it can't ping anyone, the nic is ok i tested it on another computer... IPs are all 192.168.1.x (.1 being the DC), no dhcp

Any help greatly appreciated

Open a command prompt and do an ipconfig/all and confirm all the IP information is correct, including subnet, gatewayy, etc.

Thanks for your reply.
Everything appears to be ok on ipconfig, none have changed since the last time i checked.
do you have any other ideas?
it just seems so sudden... unplug and voilá, it stops working...

thanks a lot

Put a NIC from another system in and test.

test it by pinging 127.0.0.1 and report back.

Untick TCPIP on the NIC, OK. Restart. Tick IP, set IP bits as detailed. Restart. See if that cures it.

You say that the ipconfig has not changed try releasing and renewing to see what happens. Did you take this machine from the domain back to a workgroup?

I think Lander215 is on the right track. Try another NIC. If all you've done is relocate the computer and made no software changes, then I would lean toward a hardware failure. I've had NICs die from a little static electricity when plugging in the cable... zap!! Dead! Also, verify your physical connections at the new location. Always check your connections before you kill yourself troubleshooting software... I've been burned numerous times that way.

On the software side... you said you removed from the domain and rejoined. If this is Win2K domain, I've had trouble pulling and rejoining computers in short time spans before. If you are free to change the computer name, pull it from the domain, rename the computer to a name you've never used on your domain before, then add it to the domain. Give it a fresh start...

Good luck.
