I have win 2000 installed. I had a problem with windows explorer generating errors and tried to reinstall win 2000 on top of it. Half way through the install I found a different solution to try. Now on boot up I have two choices either go into win 2000 as normal or the default choice of going into win 2000 setup. I would like to delete these setup files. Could anyone help me with this?

Thank you in advance

So the original install loads ok and works?

The setup menu entry is generated by a line in boot.ini - which you can edit out (hidden, read only, system file in root of C:).

If any setup folders left in root of C:, they will have odd names (can't remember exactly - think with $ characters included) - they should be obvious to you as not yours. So just delete them.

Yes the original install loads and works ok.

I am able to open the boot.ini from the command line but it is read only. I would change that if I could find the boot.ini through search or explorer. Any suggestions?

at the command line just type attrib boot.ini -s -h -r.

You can set explorer to show hidden and system files - its under the view tab in folder options (then you can change attributes in explorer).

Thank you. I did not unhide system files I only did hidden files. Again thank you so much for your help.

did u solve your problem in booting menu ?
