Hi,

We have just had a system made with Clarion (V6 I think) at work. The program works fine on a stand alone PC.

But we are trying to use is over a wireless network on a Win 2000 server. Things were going ok until about 2 weeks ago.

About every 5 minutes we get several messages pop up, which include "Disk Error", "Unable to open". I can post the actual errors as I took a screen shot (I will post tomorrow as I am at home the moment)

The guy who made this for us has basically said that it’s OUR problem and it’s our network.

His email to me said “But Neil, Balloons (the name of the program) is running on networks with no problems. I have a system developed in the same development tool in over 100 installations, varying from Win95 to XP and they have no problems, therefore I am lying the blame directing at your hardware/network, a lame excuse maybe, but if no-one else is experiencing it then it cant be the software. Sorry, but been there, done that, bought the t-shirt.”

However we are using other apps like Outlook (sharing calendars and contacts) and we dot get any problems with access or disk errors, our internet and email is also via the network and we have no problems there. So I would almost exclude a radio problem.

I just have no idea as I know nothing about clarion.

Can anyone help me on this one?

The workstations are using the normal Map Drive option to run the clarion program.

Thanks for looking,

Neil Willis

Hi Neil:

I have run into this too! I am also trying to 'prove' it is a network problem.

Go to
At the bottom of the page is a button to search the site.

Search for network

There are several documents relating to networking issues. Hope you can find one that applies.

BTW, FWIW, PhotoOne is written in Clarion.

Hi Neil.

We have many systems made with Clarion (V5) by ourself and we use over a wire network on a Win 2000 server.
Many users with Terminal WinXP, Win98 and Win95 access to these systems without problems.

I have two suggestions:

1°) Check in your network that all users have rights to access (read and write) to folder and files where is your system.

2°) If many users (two or more) access simultaneously, I think that the system have problems. It must be done in multiusers mode. The error #5 (Access denied) occurs when one user access to a file (without lock it) and other user want access to this file.

I hope this help you.

Cheers.

PD: I'm sorry but my English is not good. I'm from Salta, Argentina.

Thanks for all the replies!!!

I think it could be a problem with the server ? :-(

Every now and again there seems to be a problem connection to the server, but only for 30 seconds or so! I am not 100% sure that this is the problem, but we have a laptop that uses a shared printer, and that has problems printing but most the time it works fine.

Don’t suppose anyone knows of the problem where the workstation might have a intermittent problem contacting the server causing the user problems when working in Clarion?

Thanks again,

Neil
