Have just installed a modem (Conexant) on a friends PC running Win98SE and now get the above error message.

Modem diagnostics confirm the modem is functioning, but on attempting to dial out, the above error occurs.

Any assistance please

Open the control panel and select modems. Is the "region" selected correctly for your area? i.e. "UK". If not, set it correctly and see if that helps.
