I have a new user on board that has a Mac and a Tungsten palm pilot that he synch's with outlook on his mac. Now this user wants to synch with Outlook on his new work pc that has windows 2000 pro sp4. For users here that have palms we set them up to synch with outlook 2002 using the M500 conduits.

What is the potential problems that this user will see when doing this (synching between his mac and pc). When I set this up on the pc and synch for the first time on the pc will all of the data on the palm right now synch with outlook on the pc and then when the user goes and synch's with his mac will the data carry over from the pc to the mac w/o problems. I have a phobia with mac's. How can I set this up so that the user can synch with his mac and his work pc w/o losing any data.

Any solutions is a big help.

You should be able to move back and forth between the Mac and Windows platforms without a hicup. For testing purposes I regularly sync Palm devices with multiple PC's and Mac's running a wide array of operating systems, and have never had a problem. Note that you'll probably want to install the Desktop software that came with the Tungsten rather than that which came with one of your M500 devices. Third party conduits for DocsToGo, WordSmith, etc will also need to be installed on both machines (I've had good luck with all of these well-known applications working under these circumstances).

Good luck

I'll just add to what AlphaGuy said and say that I've done some mixed mac and PC palm syncing and so far it has been generally painless. The only issues were duplicate entries (e.g. Deb Johnson and Debbie Johnson) that would come up if the user made changes to both computers before syncing them with the Palm device.

I'd like to put in a question also to anybody who might read this thread: I am upgrading one such user from classic Mac OS to Panther. I want him to use the apple isync with ical, address book and mail instead of the hodgepodge of outlook express and palm desktop. However, iSync's help section contains a very clear warning advising not to sync the Palm with isync and another computer. Anybody ever test this out?

Alphaguy, have you tried this in your testing? Anything happen?
