I was reading the CM 4.1 Admin Guide last night and I saw that wildcards can be used in directory numbers. That's pretty cool, but when would you ever have a use for that? What are some uses for wildcards in DNs?

Transfer direct to voicemail without ringing the users phone is one case when I've used this. CTI route point with DN of XXX, which is set to forward all calls to voicemail. Make a tranlation pattern like *.XXX and strip pre-dot. Set up the Class of control so that only the tranlation pattern can dial the CTI route point and presto, you can transfer calls directly to any users voicemail by just hitting the transfer softkey followed by * and then the users 3 digit ext.
