facing problem with brand new lenobo T500 laptop (Model 2089-3HG). The WiFi is not working in the sense that I can see the Bluetooth LED on but the OS (Tried with XP as well as Windows 7) is not even detecting the WiFi which is i Belive Intel WiFi 5100 AGN. I even updated the system firmware. Can anyone help in this regard?

If this is brand new, I suggest either returning the laptop to the place of purchase or call Lenovo support.

thanks for the reply, i agree with Freestone, coz driver installation is another issue, the OS is not even detecting the presence of the WiFi card

Did it work when you first got it?
Did it come with Vista or Windows 7?

its a new laptop - trying with windows 7, i think it might be a manufacturing fault

it is quite possible its a manufacturing fault. The reason i ask what operating system it came with is because you said it doesnt work and you tried it with XP and Windows 7 which would leave me to believe you wiped the original install to try one or the other of the two operating systems.
That laptop in a google search showed it as a Vista preinstall thats why i wondered if it worked before you tried the other two operating systems.

Bluetooth ? WiFi?

Question: does the Laptop come with a switch to turn on/off the wireless?

if it does, try it first before booting the system...

ServiceManual said:
Fn+F5 Enable or disable the built-in wireless networking features and the
Bluetooth features. If you press Fn+F5, a list of wireless features is
displayed. You can quickly change the power state of each feature in
the list.
Note: If you want to use Fn+F5 to enable the wireless feature, the
following device drivers must be installed on the computer beforehand:
v ThinkPad Power Management driver
v OnScreen Display Utility
v Wireless device drivers

guys u are not gonna believe this, i got a great tip from one of my colleague in the office and this will be very useful to other people who might face the same issue with their T500. The WiFi issue has been resolved, go to the BIOS and then SECURITY and then IO/PORT ACCESS, there you will find a few options related to WiFi, though you can clearly see that they are enabled but you gotta change the option to disable/enable again for each option (kindds like refresh) after this reboot and PRESTO!!! the WiFi is detected and installed!!!!
