I find that buying cheap android phones on Amazon, and installing workplace is a better wifi option than buying the wifi phones, and associated docking stations.
Cheap, familiar to users,Familiar to Admin, and multi-purpose.
That being said, yes, there are Wifi phones available from Avaya.
The J179 ( and some others ) Deskphone has a WiFI option.Need to purchase the optional J100 Wifi/Bluetooth card.
The Avaya Vantage device has WiFi as an option.
There are a few DECT cordless phones that work as well, but you need to deploy DECT access points.
I have used the vantage 3 and it is substantially faster than the vantage 2. Boot up time is about 10-15 seconds and I would avoid the vantage 2 because of the slow speed.
Also the Vantage 3 has better integration with Spaces if you use that for video conferencing.
Sadly I have only ever worked with the V2 version and boy are they junk. If the V3 are faster I will have to give one a shot. Still sucks all the hoops you have to jump through to get them working including making a HTTP server.
The truth is just an excuse for lack of imagination.
(As you see, Ascom is the manufacturer behind the Avaya DECT system)
In IPO, the i6x wifi phones are registered as standard 3rd party endpoints. No need to install any Avaya specific software.
As Travis mentioned, android phones may be much cheaper and easy to replace a lost or broken phone.
Or why not let the users install the Workplace app on their personal phones - even cheaper
However, DECT-style button phones are less prone to be stolen.
It may depend on signal strength. A WLAN network need to be carefully surveyed with much more access points than a regular DECT base network.
We have used the EnGenius DuraFon Sip. We deployed 1 base per 10 cordless handsets in warehouse environments and have had great coverage. Again, just like the Ascom solution you will need 1 3rd Party IP endpoint license for every handset registered to the base.
