Hi I am running a windows 2000 network with about 30 users running windows 2000 prof at this site. Today some really wierd things started happening.

On some computers if i go into my network places the window that opens is blank. At the bottom of the window it says 6 items but nothing is shown.

On other computers when i open the control panel the iucons are squashed into the far left hand corner of the window with most of the window blank.

Doctor watson errors are being displayed from most pc's when trying to open microsoft office 2000 documents.

I have a feeling that we may have been hacked!? what could cause these wierd things to happen at the same time?

Please help, as my network is in a mess and i'm not sure what is going on.

Also check to see if the ISP is filtering port 135. Port 135 is being used for sharing. SBC Cox and many other ISP started filtering as of noon yesterday.

I was seeing the same kind of thing on our Win2K servers while I was installing the patch. Although I could find no evidence that the servers were actually infected.

These problems disappeared after the patch was installed and the McAffee sdat files were updated. Not sure which of the two may have solved it.

check this out, similar problem, Blaster it is, it seems for now
