Ok here is a wierd one for all you GURUs to drool over.

I have an 81c switch on 25.40 software
The other day my MICB started cycling through XMI001 XMI002, so I disabled and tried reseating the card. At this point the card just sat there with the lights on solid. No boot up, no indication of anything on the monitor.

So I replaced the NT5D51 Card and got the same response.
I figured now it has to be the hard drive, so I put the old card back and replace the NT5D62 hard drive and got the same response again (nothing).

Just for shits and grins... In the next shelf over I had an unused NT8D02 digital card. I took that out and put the MICB in and it boot up and I was able to ID the card.

For more shits and giggles, I put the digital card in the slot where the MICB came out of and it came up and ID'd. I even went so far as to enable the first port, put the original port cable back on and connected a 2616 to the main frame. It came up and worked perfectly.

I disabled, took the digital card out put the MICB back in that slot and again... NOTHING!

I'm about at a loss here. Sure I could move the MICB, but that still leaves me with a possible problem on the original slot or a possible problem with the MICB. This could also be indicative of a larger problem. I don't want to just blow it off as nothing.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I had an issue with a MICB acting up and it turned out to be the PE power supply. This was in a AC powered switch.
You might try a different slot in the same shelf and see if it boots and ID's.
just a thought.

sporty2

Sounds to me like sporty2 is on the right track. Try swapping the power supply in the IPE shelf.

right or wronge, that gets a star.. it would almost have to be a ps problem.. it could be backplane but i would replace the ps before i went there...

would i replace a backplane, or move the miran.. if the cust had to pay t&m, they would decide.. if they have maint, they would get a new backplane.

Well you know how these fortune 50 companies are...
Will take me at least a week to get approval to take down a whole shelf. I've been trying since yesterday just to talk with our telecomm supervisor and explain the problem. of course his boss says that at this time the MICB is not a high priority. The problem is that at any point she may decide that it's a priority and want it fixed NOW!!!

I'm trying to head that day off. There is an unused lineside T1 card in that same shelf. would not be too difficult to move the ribbon cable to the other port on the back plane. But of course I have to get permission just to do that. At this time I'm still waiting to get that permission. I'll let you all know how this plays out.

Ok, Further information...
It's looking more and more like Sporty was right on about the power supply. You get a star from me too.

I got permission to remove an old Lineside T1 card that was in the same shelf. I moved the ribbon cable in the back so I could watch it on the monitor and moved the MICB to that slot. Unfortunately, there was nothing to watch on the monitor as it again did not boot up.

Now I'm again in wait mode to get permission to down the shelf and replace the power supply.

While I'm on the subject of power supplies....
The power supply in that shelf is a NT6D40BA, I checked all our spare power supplies here and they are all NT6D40AB. Now something in the back of my memory tells me that BA and AB power supplies are NOT compatable. Does anyone know for sure?

Just a thought, for what it's worth.

Check your ribbon cables at the back of the IPE Shelf and make sure all '3' are connected to that slot for your MICB

I guess if you can connect onto the MICB via the connector out of the Amphenol for LAN/WebBrowser access then that will prove that one

Cheers!!

Ok gentlemen...
Here is the official answer:

There were actually two problems.

First the PE Power supply was bad. We first tried to disable the shelf, recycle the power, and bring the shelf back up. At this point we could not re-enable/load the controller card. Replacing the power supply allowed us to re-enable the shelf

However the MICB still did not come back. We found that there was a problem with the serial cable in the back. When we unplugged it the MICB did boot up. Further troubleshooting showed the port on the card was good. I was able to connect my laptop directly to the card and got good response. So I traced the cable back and this is what I found:

The route for the cable was as follows
From the card there was a 9 pin to 25 pin adapter
Then a 25 pin to Cat 5, RJ45 adapter.
The cable then ran to a network RJ45 punch block.
Punch block was cross-connected to a cableblock.
Cable was connected to left side of dual jack under my desk
However, the monitor was plugged into the right side jack.

I plugged the monitor back into the left side jack and I'm once again talking to the MICB card.

Why the card would boot with the serial cable unplugged as opposed to plugged in and going to a vacant jack, I have no idea. But it is now back in service and everyone is happy. When the customer is happy, I am happy... so there we have it.

that is strange, our mica does not have a full time monitor and it boots just the same.. as usual, live and learn
