I'm having a bit the same problem as stated in this topic.

I have a spare Phaser 840 and changed the 2 Clutches mensioned in previous topic but doesnt fix my problem.

When I print something on the printer, one time it gives a paperjam on the HC tray. Opening the tray and then closing will fix the problem and prints the document. After 10 or more pages the problem changes. Printer Picks up the paper no problem but at the exit is wil eject the paper 3/4 of the page and then retrieve it about 1 inch giving a paperjam.

Can someone please tell me how to fix this problem. I have most of the spare parts available in the Phaser 840.

Tnx in advance,

Kristof

Check the fault history and look for the latest jam codes. These will start with 22,xxx.xx this will help determine what sensor is initiating the jam.

Tnx for your reply Marty,

Here are the error codes I recieve:

22.700.02
22.703.05
22.206.14
22.722.06

We had exactly the same thing in our workshop, we have managed to cure the problem by performing an NVRAM reset. To do this make sure that you have printed off (best you can) a copy of the configuration, as a NVRAM reset will wipe all your settings, go to the Troubleshooting menu and hold down the left arrow and depress select, this will take you to the hidden service menu. Move down till it says NVRAM reset and this will re-initialise your printer. That should be it.

I tried to reset the NVRAM using the Service menu but it didnt solve the problem.
I Still get the message "Remove lower Tray to Clear" the first pages, later it changes to a jam in the output. Message is then "Open Exit cover to clear" When i open the lover tray the paper is most of the time not even feeded.

I really dont understand what the problem is. It looks like the printer expects another papersize. I dont know.

Anyone another suggestion?

Tnx

Could be right there with the paper size, it has been known for the little plastic tabs to break or fall off on the right hand side of the paper tray. Only other things i can think of is that you need to clean the paper pickup roller or the feed rollers with an isopropronal solvent. We have also had intermittant paper jams in different places due to the feed plates in the heater assembly having paper phisically jammed in there.

Check ALL sensors in the paper path. There are three in the upper feed assembly that are notoriously bad, but they usually stop the paper at a specific point. Check the spring loaded sensor on the Lower Exit Guide - sometimes, it starts to give faulty readings because the spring wears out over time. My thought here is that it is only doing it's job some of the time.

I've got the part if you need to replace it.

We once had similar symptoms in that the paper would partially exit the rear and then get pulled back into the printer. I think we were also getting a variety of error messages.

I'll second ifixprinters recommendation to check the sensors in the paper path. Specifically, our problem turned out to be the preheat exit sensor which was not seated on the frame properly (it had been dislodged and partly damaged apparently after someone pulled some paper back out after a jam).

Another possibility, but a long shot, is a random type fault that can be generated by a short in the y-axis motor due to a buildup of commutator brush material. We were getting error code 07,005.47 (drum maintenance home sensor activated at the wrong time) but of course it had nothing to do with it. If all else fails, you can look at that.

In our case it apparently was the coating of the brush material on the motor's lead wires that was shorting it, as moving the wires would eliminate the problem for a while. The motor (Phaser 860) is easy to take apart.
