We had our DNS addresses changed on some computers, mostly on the Windows NT workstations, just out of the blue. Has anyone ever seen this? The new DNS number assigned was invalid and of course our Internet on these workstations no longer worked. Weird...anyone? Virus? Hack?

Well, I'm not sure about it being a hack or virus but you could check to see if you have a rogue DHCP server on your network giving out bad addresses (maybe one that is suppose to be in a test network but is getting out into the real network).

Take a look at "ipconfig -all" from one of the computers that is giving you your problems and see what the DHCP server's IP address is.

I know you would probably be having more errors on the network than just the DNS address problem but it may help.

Thx for the reply wolf. Actually, I have all DHCP turned off, so it wouldn't be that. I was able to reset to the correct DNS on the workstations and they work fine. Unfortunately, in our Citrix server environment, the DNS was changed back but still cannot get out of that server. It sees the gateway but cannot go past there. Hmmm. Soemthing happened and I'm not sure what. I'll probably reinstall TCP/IP on that server and see what happens. Any other info or ideas would be great. Thx again for the response..
